Ethnomath
The story of the Task Centre Kit for Aboriginal Students began in 1993 with a group of teachers in remote Northern Territory schools who took sample tasks from the mainstream collection to explore with their students. The Lakota are a tribe who live on the northern plains of North America. They are closely related by culture, language, and history to other tribes who together are often referred to as 'Sioux'. » Contributions of Different Cultures Ever since humans began counting their fingers and toes, mathematics has been part of daily life. Although the mathematics used worldwide today largely comes from the Greek, Islamic and Western European traditions, every culture has developed some form of mathematics to help guide the production of the basic necessities of life. The Ethnomathematics Digital Library (EDL) is planned as a resource network and interactive learning community for ethnomathematics, with emphasis on the indigenous mathematics of the Pacific region.
